“From home in Zimbabwe to a wildlife orphanage in Chobe. From a black rhino project in the Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania, to veterinary school in Morogoro. From contented solitude, to love. From loved ones lost and back home again – the Lord led me through it all!” ~ Jacqueline La Grange-Mostert
Join Jacs as she shares the wonders of travelling the continent the ‘African’ way; making life-long friends; meeting her husband to be; and the pain of losing a loved one, all while negotiating the rigours of vet school in a developing-country context – from strikes to fire-fighting; tackling pigs, cattle and pharmacology; running from rioters and bachelors, to bucket-bathing and surviving typhoid; her fortitude is sure to inspire anyone with a dream in their heart.

Mzungu Vet is a great read. Jacs and Josh have been neighbors for the last 10 years and Jacs has looked after our various pets during that time. From neutering our dogs in the back of her truck, to dealing with the effects of spitting cobras she is second to none! Learning more about her journey to become the extraordinary veterinarian she now is, was great fun and inspiring. I can not wait for the next installment!

I laughed, I cried, and I was moved by her courage and her unwavering faith. Jacs is one of those dynamic people who can cook a great meal, make biscuits, homeschool her three children, be the vet for the family game capture and relocation team, spay or neuter a couple of pets and have a caring and in-depth conversation – seemingly all at the same time! A great read and an inspiration!

I couldn’t put it down and have promptly bought a couple of copies for family and friends. Jacs I’m so glad you’ve penned your amazing story for us all to share ! You truly are an inspiration , just love how your humour faith and determination shine through. What a great depiction of life in Africa, the struggles, adventures and humour. May Our Lord bless everything you put your hand to !

This was a great read which had me captivated all the way through. Like the author, this was a punchy, no-frills book which takes the reader easily through vet school life and the courses which made up each year. At no point did I ever think ‘will this course ever end?’! The book is a true reflection of the determined, skilled, caring and dedicated vet and person we know Jacquie to be. At points I laughed and at points I cried, but the book is at no point sentimental or self-pitying or exaggerated. It is a good meaty read and I now just want to know more of where this great story is at.
