Freedom’s Price Tag

The Dictator, Idi Amin, of Uganda, ruled with an iron fist during the late 1960’s into the 1970’s. Diplomats at the time, with dubious intentions, plotted to overthrow President Idi Amin using an interstate bullion transaction as the catalyst.

This story moves from South Africa, through the then Southern Rhodesia, to air fields and barracks in Central Africa. A riveting non-fiction which takes its intrepid hero and lovely heroine on a journey from the capital city of South Africa, Pretoria, to deep within the heartland of the otherwise landlocked beautiful country of Uganda.

About The Author

Lance Thorburn

Lance Thorburn

Lance Thorburn was born in Johannesburg in 1949, and matriculated at Highlands North High School for Boys. As with most South African men at the time, he was conscripted into the South African Defence Force, rising through the ranks and seeing action in the so called border wars.

Parallel to his army obligations, Lance studied at night through the Witwatersrand Technical College, obtaining a Diploma in Industrial Audiometry. He worked for a number of years for Springbok Radio in the production and presentation departments. His passion was realised when he started his own Electrical Engineering Project Management company.
In 2009 he studied for the ministry, and now officiates full time as pastor in a church on the lower south coast of KwaZulu Natal.
