A Journey of Transformation, Resilience, and Self-Discovery.
Leaving behind the newly democratic South Africa of 1994, the author, Nokwazi Hlubi, embarks on an unforgettable journey to America—one that will challenge, shape, and redefine her. From the bustling streets of Johannesburg to the academic halls of Grinnell College, she navigates cultural contrasts, personal struggles, and moments of pure wonder—including an unexpected encounter with the legendary Patti.
As she immerses herself in American life, Nokwazi confronts issues of race, privilege, and belonging, all while striving for academic success and self-actualization. Come Away With Me is an inspiring memoir about stepping into the unknown, embracing change, and forging one’s own path. With heartfelt honesty and keen insight, the author invites readers to journey with her—across continents, cultures, and personal milestones—toward a deeper understanding of identity, resilience, and the power of transformation.
